COMPLEX MEDIATION/ARBITRATION TRAINING
by Peacemaker Ministries

THE COMPLEX MEDIATION/ARBITRATION TRAINING course is one of the Advanced Training courses offered by Peacemaker Ministries.  This course is designed to prepare conciliators to provide Christian conciliation in the form of mediation and arbitration for cases that require a formal process, applying biblical principles for conflict resolution, such as in a civil litigation or alternative dispute resolution context.

How long is this training?
This course is a three-day, live training event.  It starts at 8:00 a.m. on October 31 and continues through 5:00 p.m. on November 2.  It involves instruction in the form of lectures, demonstrations, and individual exercises to assist in the application of specific skills. Each participant will also receive written material to read and review in advance of the training.  Application for CLE credit in Texas is currently in process.

What is the cost?
The registration fee is $625.  This includes all pre-course written materials, a participant workbook, and three days of training.  This fee does not include the participant’s travel, lodging, or food.

[letter from Peacemaker Ministries to follow]

Dear Peacemaker,

I would like to take a few minutes of your time to let you know about an exceptional training and continuing legal education opportunity.  As you may be aware, Peacemaker Ministries, through the Institute for Christian Conciliation, provides training for mediators and arbitrators seeking to provide Christian Conciliation services.  We do so primarily through our Mediation (Level 4) and Certification (Level 5) training, and our Certification Program.  Because of the varied need in skill training, we have divided the Certification training into two different courses.  One course focuses on the non-ADR professional providing conciliation services in the context of their church, with a separate course focusing on the ADR professional or person wanting to provide mediation and arbitration as a professional service.

We are offering the Certification Training with the professional mediation/arbitration emphasis on October 31 – November 2, 2006 in San Antonio, Texas.  Attached is a brief over-view of the course.  This course is part of the training requirement to become a Certified Christian Conciliator by Peacemaker Ministries, but is also a valuable continuing legal education event.  You may take this training without enrolling in the Certification Program[1].  If you are already providing Christian conciliation this course will be an excellent refresher.  If you are or may represent clients in a Christian conciliation process, this course will help you better understand the process.

We have applied for 30 hours of CLE credit from the Texas State Bar.  This application is pending.  Upon approval, such credit can be used by the participant to apply for CLE recognition in their state of practice.

The second opportunity, and a bonus to the above training, is that the training is occurring as a pre-conference event to the Christian Legal Society national conference, which starts the evening of November 2, 2006.  You will be able to not only take the training, but also enjoy a weekend of fellowship with other Christian attorneys and benefit from the valuable workshops and sessions offered by CLS.

You can learn more about and register for the CLS conference at  www.clsnet.org. You may register for the Certification Training by going to our web site (www.Peacemaker.net), and click on Training & Events, Master Event Calendar, and scroll to Advanced Training Events, October 31 – November 2 in San Antonio, or call our office and ask for Melodie.

I look forward to seeing you at the training and the CLS conference.

In His Service,

David D. Schlachter

Director of the Institute for Christian Conciliation
Division of Peacemaker Ministries
