JOB SEEKERS: IF YOU RESPOND TO A JOB POSTING BELOW, PLEASE LET THE EMPLOYER KNOW THAT YOU ARE RESPONDING TO THEIR AD ON THE CHRISTIAN LEGAL SOCIETY WEBSITE. THE PEOPLE WHO POST ON THIS WEBSITE WANT THE CLS COMMUNITY TO APPLY FOR THESE OPENINGS. UNFORTUNATELY, WE HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH GENERAL LEGAL RECRUITING FIRMS ILLEGALLY PUTTING THESE POSTINGS ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE, SO PEOPLE WHO DO NOT KNOW CLS ARE APPLYING FOR THESE JOBS. LET THEM KNOW YOU ARE A PART OF THE CLS COMMUNITY.
Have you ever wondered why our organization was originally called a "Society" rather than an association? Among the reasons was because the term implied something more than just a common interest. It implied a societal friendship that involved interaction with each other. Today, nearly 49 years later, we must take great pains to avoid losing that perspective for, in that significant way, CLS is unlike many other organizations. So how can you and I maintain this great benefit of membership?
The following E-Devotionals were sent to our members by email on a bi-weekly basis beginning in July 2009. Written by CLS members Charley Cole and Ms. Wendy Patrick, (with an occasional alternate author) these E-Devotionals are for your encouragement and edification. If you would like to receive these by email, please email us so sign up and ensure that your computer's browser allows emails via Constant Contact from memmin@clsnet.org. The most recent devotionals are at the top.
OCTOBER 21-24, 2010
ROSEN PLAZA HOTEL
ORLANDO, FLORIDA
You are invited to join hundreds of attorneys, law students, other law professionals and their families at CLS’s 2010 National Conference.
The conference planning team has lifted the bar significantly this year, giving special attention to both spiritual formation and professional development. With extraordinary support from Campus Crusade for Christ’s (CCC) legal ministries group, CLS has held down costs for attendees despite enhanced programming. Of particular note: carefully planned children’s activities led by experienced CCC staff will make this a great time for the entire family.
I encourage you both to attend and to sponsor a law student for a truly outstanding time of fellowship, fun, and professional growth.
See you there!

CLS seeks to provide resources for lawyers and law students to grow in their relationship with Jesus and in their community of believers. The rigors of the practice and study of law and the temptations that attend to lawyering and studying law often put stress on the spiritual well being of lawyers and law students alike. Through its ministry offerings, CLS provides opportunities for service through Christian legal aid, local chapter fellowships, law student ministries, and advocacy for religious freedom.

This area will allow members to access an area of intercessory prayer for ourselves and other members of CLS. Here only members will be allowed to post prayer requests and praise items for the entire community to review and provide prayer support to others and the community as a whole. What a privilege we have as believers to uphold one another in prayer and praise! This will be your opportunity to help the membership be aware of struggles and battles in your life as well as become aware yourself of the battles others are dealing with.

In his book, Choose the Life, author Bill Hull writes, "The problem we face is a faith that doesn’t transform. We have taught a non-discipleship Christianity, and in Scripture this Christianity does not exist…We have made the test for salvation doctrinal rather than behavioral…
We are proud to be able to offer our members discounts on their lawfirm web sites. If you are a member of CLS and desire to have your lawfirm's website designed, implemented, and maintained (or redesigned), we are recommending our website designers: Strategic Business Solutions, International, who will gladly discuss your requirements and provide these services at prices considerably discounted over the current market price for the quality of work you expect.
The benefit of voting on topics of interest to the society is only available to active CLS members. The links on this page show the current issues available for voting as well as the actual ballot that members will use to vote.
This benefit is for members only and involves support available from our staff and staff attorneys. We are able to support the membership with advice and access to resources that are outside the legal constraints put on most attorneys and law firms. We are able to be a catalyst of support for areas that cross the boundary of church and state. Members are helped by an informed staff that works with these sometimes difficult issues on a daily basis. We are here for the membership to use as a resource where they might not otherwise have an advocate.

I'd like to invite you into my living room. Have a seat here by the fireplace. I've just made some fresh coffee. How do you take yours?
I want to talk together about how Christians are transformed to the image of Christ. That's our destiny as believers according to Romans 8:29. How does this happen in a believer's life; in your life? What role does the local church have in spiritual formation? These are questions I've asked myself so many times.
By Tim Smith
If you are a Christian attorney, you have probably heard the joke about being an oxymoron. If you are a Christian criminal defense attorney or a plaintiff's attorney, however, you may find yourself having to convince other Christians that what you do is consistent with Scripture.
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, and so somehow to attain to the resurrection from the dead (Philippians 3:10-11)
HE IS RISEN…HE IS NOT HERE! And so we rejoice in this Easter celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord.
There is a need in everyone's life to be centered- to have their life shaped by what they value & treasure. Many of us have such a strong need for acceptance that relationships become the center of our lives. Some seek materialistic outlets to have there inner needs met. Still others center their lives on careers, successful law practices, physical fitness, intellectual pursuits or some form of entertainment. These values are not in themselves wrong, but when they are used to shape our lives, I ultimately feel that something is missing.
The practice of prayer is a standing rebuke to the wisdom of the world. The practice of prayer affirms a dimension to life that is unseen & immeasurable, while the wisdom of the world considers something important only if it is visible & quantifiable. The practice of prayer proclaims that people are spiritual beings, rooted in the heart, while the wisdom of the world assumes that we are economic beings, concerned primarily with our personal net worth and an adequate retirement income.

What a privilege we have as believers to uphold one another in prayer and praise! This is your opportunity to help the membership be aware of struggles and battles in your life as well as become aware yourself of the battles others are dealing with. Let's be sure to include our praises as well
