There are more than 800 lawyers in 40 Christian legal aid programs across the nation serving as volunteers. They were easily trained to provide basic advice in routine problems of the poor and the homeless and have discovered the Lord's rich rewards in the process.
Interest in Christian legal aid has "taken off" this year as Christian lawyers in more than 25 communities have expressed an interest and have found that nearly every sizeable community needs their quality services. Philadelphia, Tucson, and Lansing,are among those cities in which programs have recently started or in which we anticipate programs will be started this fall.
CLS wants any city or community and any Christian church(es) or para-church agencies that have a significant number of Christian lawyers to have the opportunity of considering such a quality program in their area. CLS is offering a free 12-minute recruiting video explaining Christian legal aid to any CLS member who will agree to show it to a gathering of Christian lawyer colleagues (and law students) during the summer and will report the extent of interest to CLS.
