CENTER ATTORNEYS TAKING WITNESS DEPOSITIONS IN OHIO STATE CASE
This week, Center attorneys Steve Aden and Tim Tracey are taking several depositions in Columbus, Ohio for Christian Legal Society v. The Ohio State University. The discovery period will continue through the end of August.
This case arose when the Ohio State University threatened to revoke the CLS chapter’s recognized status and associated privileges because the chapter wished to consider religion and moral conduct in choosing leaders and members. The University said that this violated its non-discrimination policy.
CENTER FILES FRIEND OF THE COURT BRIEF IN CONTRACEPTION COVERAGE CASE
On August 5, 2004, the Center, along with the National Association of Evangelicals and the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, filed an amicus brief in the U.S. Supreme Court in support of Catholic Charities' petition asking the court to review the Supreme Court of California's March 1, 2004 decision.
The California courts rejected Catholic Charities’ claim that the state violated its religious exercise rights by forcing it to include contraceptive coverage in its employee health benefit plan.
