Child Evangelism Fellowship of New Jersey v.
Penns Grove Carneys Point Regional School District

Penns Grove, NJ -- The Center brought suit against a New Jersey school district that refused to give a Child Evangelism Fellowship Bible club meeting space on the same terms as secular community groups.

CEF requested meeting space in the District's Fields Street School in January, 2003 to hold "Good News Club" meetings. The District approved the CEF's request for meeting space, but imposed certain conditions. Unlike secular community groups, CEF would not be allowed to post flyers, participate in "back-to-school nights," or have parental permission slips distributed to students.

After repeating CEF's request for equal treatment, the Center filed suit with the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (Camden Division) on May 2, 2003.
